Correlation Analysis between Dementia Attitude and Dementia Knowledge According to the Level of Dementia Education of Occupational Therapy Students

Abstract
Objective: This is to find out knowledge of dementia and the attitude of to be occupational therapy students who work in the field of dementia, and to find how knowledge of dementia and the attitude are correlated depending on the level of regular dementia education and regular clinical practicum of dementia in college.

Methods: The survey was conducted on college students majoring occupational therapy from January to March 2021. Explanation on the study was given to all participants and only the students who understood the purpose of the study participated, and data on a total of 162 subjects was analyzed.

Results: First, regard to attitudes toward dementia of the subjects score of the attitudes toward dementia was 84.42¡¾12.36 on average out of 140 points. And dementia knowledge of the study subjects was 18.33¡¾3.11 on average out of 30 points. Second, in terms of the correlation analysis between dementia attitude and dementia knowledge depending of the level of education on dementia, students who have received more dementia education as regular course have higher dementia attitude and knowledge(p<.05). Additionally, as length of time of clinical practicum of dementia increases, the dementia attitude was higher(p<.05).

Conclusion: It was found that a degree of dementia education had a high correlation with dementia knowledge and attitudes. In particular, dementia education was found to have a significant correlation with dementia clinical practice.
